Feb. 13 Dear Jack,

     You must have wondered why you have not heard from me for such a long, long time.  I am truly sorry for not having written much sooner.  Several different problems & events have taken place which made my work on the dissertation suffer a great deal.  I got married, visited my family in France, wrote three chapters which were promptly rejected by Dr. Fried, lost incentive & recovered it several times (not in that order) & finally here I am with only 4 months to finish the project and with Dr. Fried more adamant than ever that I write underlined:  the Perfect dissertation.
     I am on the fifth revision of those first three chapters, with great hopes that this time Lew Fried will let them pass.  Also, I've started working on a chapter dealing with underlined:  A World to Win and
