April 28 Dear Jack,

     I was a little concerned about your silence, but I naturally understand how very busy you are, and I am always very grateful for the time you, so generously, give me.  Please give Gladys my sincere wishes for a speedy recovery, and please don't worry about working on the interview.  I have time.
     My work hasn't been going too well.  I, too, have had a rather depressing winter and my work suffered, naturally.  I am all hopes that soon my enthusiasm will return.
     Actually, I feel overwhelmed by the nature of my research.  I feel a little fake and presumtuous, [sic]  I hope I can get to see
