in ink in top margin circa 5 -65

Dear Jack

Thought you'd like to know what's really going on in the South.
Probably you read about that Negro con man getting 107 dollars from the Mayor of Selma. This will set civil rights back a hundred years now that the segregationists have proof of Negros being smarter than Southerners.
Please Jack, don't worry about those Beatniks over on the Berkeley campus. Things have been tightened up to the point of banning the sale of Tums for the tummy.
This came after someone noticed that Tums is smut spelled backwards.
That's the sort of people they have in Berkeley. Backward people.
   Well. Cest la ball bounces.

George P.S. My poet friend Eric Barker was up from the Sur and we painted the town red. Then we gave it a second coat.

Now I'm going to be investigated for red activities. Hope they don't find out about my Indian friends. Not only do I know them but I sympathise with these reds.
