II are old enough to be University students. But then Carol's Mike will be going into senior year at high school in September. At that time Harders will have 4 teen-agers in high school.

Joe, too applied for his social security, and it is true that few people will be buying mink and diamonds with

their checks. Joe will get a "modest pension: from Bd. of Ed. Joe worked under S.S. the first 12 lean years of the system.

Whatever you heard or read in the papers about the riots in Chicago is all true. It is almost unbelievable the

damage done and 20 million dollars arson damage to a beautiful store like Carson, Pirie, Scott & Co. Many workmen are working constantly, but they will be months repairing & replacing I fear to see what west Madison St. looks like. And, not due to rioting, from 63rd & Halsted north to 59th St is the crummiest, most bedraggled, pathetic and dead area in the city. You would have to see it to believe it. While we were close, rioting was at least a few blocks from us.

Not to inconvenience you at home, we could put up at the local hotel. Would sure to nice to see you both again -

'til we hear from you - Best wishes, Louise & Joe
