Dear Jack

Thought you might like to see that your review of Menken's letters ran in the local aftenblatt and where it ran. Ultra Room is the local version of the pre Castro peep shows in Havana. Except here you sit alone and look through one way glass at two little broads blowing each other off along with a bit of flogging and other Sado/Maso crap.
   Which reminds me...
It was said of the Marquis de Sade
And he must have found it rather odd
          That the Baron von Masoch
          Put him over a hassock
And reversed their positions by God.
This year we didn't have our usual January in Baja. At about 03:00 hours on December 17, I was struck by a stroke. I lay in the dark, felt my left side go numb and cold. Later saw my mouth sag and dribble.
It scarde [sic] Hell out of me, gave me religion.. Now I am a confirmed Ecopalian. That's an Episcopalian with the piss scared out of him.
But then, things got better fast. So much so that we spent a week in Santa Barbara between my second brain scan and a consultation with my internist.
I should have held out for Baja. Even comparing pre-devaluation prices and accomodations, Santa Barbara isn't in it with Mexico. At that, it was not too bad.
What burned me most was not driving my shiny new Alfa Romeo the shole [sic] route. Leave it to my luck to splurge seven grand on a new car and then get hit with yet another 'stroke' of bad luck.
Ah well, at least we're not asshole deep in snow. I read of 144 inches in Buffalo...that's 12 feet of God Damned snow. Why can't we ship some of that out to the Sierras to relieve our drought?
Who knows? Any day now there will be a movement of tectonic plates. The Pacific plate will move away from the North American plate and the whole damn West coast will sink into the Pacific.
Since the whole fault line zags way East of LA, San Diego and Baja perhaps, by then, I'll have retired to la Mision and can shrug off the whole cataclysim. [sic]
Meanwhile, keep in touch. Whatever happens, we have little time to keep on exchanging letters.

Keep the faith...if you can ever find out what it is. George PS Give Gladys two hugs - one from Alice, one from me.
