to make the daily journey by car. By bus into Maidstone and then train to Tunbridge Wells will probably take 1 ½ hours, compared with 35 minutes by car.

     The coal-miners have taken the opportunity to "work to rule" in an effort to get higher wages, and also some of the electrical power workers, so that the immediate future looks pretty bleak.
    However, it is no good looking on the gloomy side.  I expect we shall have a merry Christmas and wish you one too.
    Mother is quite well.  She has fully recovered from her broken ankle, although I don't think she walks quite as far as she used to.
