Elm Villa Green Lane, Boughton Monchelsea Maidstone Kent 1st December, 1973 Dear Frank,

     My mother has passed on to me the copy of your Chicago Daily News Panorama with its article on Jack Conroy.  I never realised when he was here that he was important enough to merit an article in such a large paper.
      I could recognise him in the photo at the Sugar Creek graveyard, but not the one in his study.  We still have his book "The Disinherited, and I had always thought that it was largely auto-biographical.
      I expect that in the U.S.A. you are beginning to worry about the effects of the oil shortage, as we are here.  Coupons are now being issued for the petrol rationing which will probably start before Christmas.  As I believe you know I work in Tunbridge Wells, and I don't suppose I shall get sufficient petrol
