your WEED KING collection is a triumph. Please accept my congrats, and know what pleasure, what

vindication, you've brought to this worker emeritus.

The title story is excellent, a classic, but my very favorite is 'The Fields of Golden Glow', a family classic;

your mother lives in its pages, and so does the Place, the Moberly, the Monkey Nest landscape of other years. Of course I liked 'Charlie..,' related to the Shummn and Mink of my farm days; and 'Bun Grady' is a classic which Gorki must have loved when he read it in the American section of Moscow Library! Well, Jack, I liked your real collection very much, and will see to it that local bookstores and libraries latch onto it. Wixson sure did his part, too.

We are well, at work and as embattled asany [sic] family on the make. Since we sold the Book shop 5 years ago

we have been a bit beseiged for taxes, mortgage payments and cash to keep us fed & clothed. Lynn is now a psychology counsellor [sic], but takes only elder and poverty cases; she is planning to get her Doctor's, by bits. Loren Lark is 5'10" at age 15, a school athlete and a popular guy; of course he's ready to beat his old man at almost anything, but so far I've survived.

My AUDEN memoir is yet fighting for pb and UK publication, and hasn't earned its advance, despite fihe [sic: the]

critical reception. The harvest fields and slums of my Midwest are mentioned in it, but not featured. I've finished a new neo-Travenian novel of Latin America.
