April 17, 1970 Dear Mr Conroy

We have met only in print. My Father acted as mediator in distributing our writings. I admired your work and integrity

as did my Father, and I was pleased that you thought well of my work in Negro history. Your review was perceptive and kind.

You were apparently the last person in contact with my Father. Your  opened letter of August 4 was on his table when

authorities opened his room for my inspection of his personal effects. He apparently died of a heart attack on August 6, in his sleep. His body was discovered on August 10. I was notified the next day and arrived on August 13 to make final arrangements.

Fighting off the vultures (his landlords, the coroner, the public administrator, his former wife, his
