April 4, 1973 Dear Jack,

This will be a note to say that I appreciate deeply your effort on behalf of my book. It continues to have some sale and some good

reviews are coming in - also one negative one (everyone does not like my writing!) But, as Willa Cather said, serious fiction should be controversial - or I like to think so.

I'm wondering, Jack, whether you would do me a favor. Could you send on to me a copy of your review for the News - even if it is not

to appear. Of course I am hoping very much it will appear. But I'd like to have this copy, for, with your name on it, I think it could be helpful to quote in trying to sell the book to a paperback house. No sale yet - but we are trying! So if you can send a copy on to me, I'd appreciate it much! I took your suggestion and contacted the University of Missouri - I do hope there is still
