Dec. 16th/26
My dear Ms. Leitner. Your answering telegram was received this afternoon, for which many thanks. We have been anxious about the "wind-up" as so much depends upon it. We cannot understand why Ms. Hume should relinquish the beautiful table she so much desired--Did she wire canceling her order for it? We will appreciate a letter stating how it came about as we are amazed at this turn of affairs--The Lowensteins wrote that they were returning the lovely old Queen Anne Secretaire, reluctantly, because it was too large for their space in the living-room. That deducts $1500.00 from our totals, and adding Ms. Hume's table, makes 1800.00--a blow! I presume the large old Sheffield tray in library closet was delivered with the marquetry desk to Ms. Dole--Mr. Whitney asks that you will please send him the receipt Mr. Miller got from the Safety Deposit Co- for the two boxes of M. Wallace Winter's silver left with them.
