Mar 29 Dear Sherwood: Elizabeth Steele died last Thursday (Mar 25) of pneumonia. So ends the life of a beautiful high-spirited girl who laughed as she put up a long battle against tremendous odds. The body was created at Graceland. It is hard to realize that all physical that remains of so vivid a personality, is a few handsful of ashes. Her mother is left alone, at an advanced age. Elizabeth worked at Lord & Thomas agency up to the time she went to hospital 12 days before her death. Her little estate will probably take care of her mother.
Life runs on. I have a note from Macmillan's this morning, acknowledging receipt of my novel -- the second one of which you have read a part -- and promising Mr. Robert Littell's attention. Just as soon as I can pull myself together I shall begin another. It will deal with Woman -- which of course means a conflict with Man.
