July 30, 1979 Jack oboy, oboy:

I never in my life came across a woman (!) who carries on about ole Jack Conroy, the way Barbara Hogan does. She has read and re-read your book and now sets down to do a college paper on it!?! She sold her car, but borrowed one to drive over and get my copy of underlined: The Disinherited to re-read and finish her paper about it -- did you ever have such devotion from a reader? Well, I bet you never did or will - so I'm sending you the card Barbara sent me. Her address:

1465 18th Street N.W. Apt. 1 Washington, D.C. 20009 I believe she is 37 - at least that what I think she told. Has a daughter and son in Florida - one a lawyer - the other a doctor.

   Write me some good news.
   Jack
