pencil in top margin to Conroy Nov. 5, 1977 Dear Jack, oboy, oboy:
First: congrats on receiving the grant from the Nat'l Endow. for the Arts - yes, I am surprised the FBI and the Un-American hounds didn't crucify you for being a dangerous CommuNEEist - they sure got a lot of others who probably didn't deserve it nuther, but they made 'em suffer as they made me - it ain't no fun and now maybe some of the good people have seen the error of their ways and wish to do some good. I haven't seen the list of the gratees [sic] if I do I will get a copy to you. Any lead where to look? Dellinger wrote about the delay and the grand new building they were moving into - said they had money trouble also, but it was nothing they couldn't solve, and hoped to do better in the future. They have a good thing and I hope they do have smoother sailing. Thanks for doing the "little introductory sketch" - I am sure it is going to be okeh - having an introduction by Conroy is much, too much! I have just written for the record of underlined: folk sounds Judy put out some time ago - didn't have a record player then -- my son just got one. so, we'll be hearing Judy. How come VODKA only 80 Proof? It might be a 100 year distillery, but it sure doesn't prove it by making 80 Proof VODKA - hope their bourbon is better. They make Applejack in Va. at 100 proof! 120 proof at moonshiner's. Hang in there. Jack in pencil: Rogers
