Dear Sherwood George Dougherty, whom I saw for the first time in two years recently, told me you had asked my address, so I am sending it. I stayed? starved? around New York for a time–then hearing of a job here I came West and connected with the Chas. H. Fuller agency at as good a salary as I ever made anywhere. I am out of debt now, too, and am saving for my next dash to liberty. The Schoenberg Opera I've thrown in the bottom of my trunk–utterly disgusted and disillusioned. Talk, talk, talk–here and in New York, but no first preliminary move toward action even on the past of those loudest in their protestations that they want "American Themes in opera," "Opera in English," etc. etc. I believe I wrote that I got to Louden Charlton, Otto Kolm? Kalm?'s right hand man, who said Kalm? would support my excellent ideas no doubt if I'd get a good "reliable" composer instead of Schoenberg–say, John Powell!
