4819 W. 139th Street Hawthorne, Calif. 90250 10/13/71 Dear Mr. Conroy,

I am abject at not answering your wonderful letter of August 22. A death in the family came between me

and life for a while. I xeroxed copies of your enclosures. The review of "Zelda" hits the core of the problem. How many writers have been destroyed by marrying the wrong mates? Scott, I think, was one whose evil demon led him to select the most destructive wife around around. I plan to use this review in my high school class when I knock "The Great Gatsby" into their heads. Also, I hope to influence the school librarian into buying "The Disinherited" for use in English and social studies classes. The Herbst thing goes well. There was another destructive marriage.
