4819 W. 39th St. Hawthorne, California 90250 Nov. 15, 1970 213-679-6226 Dear Mr. Conroy,

Last summer you were good enough to send me some material. You may be interested to know that your book The Disinherited

is being used in classes at California State College, Dominguez Hills. Next quarter your book will be used in a class in American Studies. At present I am doing a study on Josephine Herbst, who died last year. Can you give me any of your personal and literary insights on her and on her work? In some of her novels, her writing is very good. In my judgment they will never be read again to any marked degree. Your book has life. Hers do not. I shall appreciate any help you can give me. If you do not have time to write, we could set up a telephone time where i could call you. Or if you could tape any thoughts I would be glad to defray the expense.

Sincerely,
Kathleen R. Smith
