In 1966 Uncle Sam collected over 2.8 billion dollars in taxes from the sale of liquor--at the rate of $10.50 per gallon.
arrow pointing to newspaper clipping I'm sober 25 years come 17 June. If I'd drank a gallon a week over that time (Tax $10.50 a gal.) I would have given the Federals $13,660.50. I figure 1301 weeks because I've had 7 leap years in 1943-1968 AA.
