except the homes of the town’s chief celebrities - Anne Cannon Reynolds, unclear the rest of the Cannons,’ and the Gaston Means’. Sunday evening Blanche and I took Chris to a negro revival. The sermon with its refrain “Brother, prayer will bring you out” was not nearly so good as I heard several years ago. “You got to be moved to Jesus.” The singing was good though; it made up in spontaneity for what it sometimes lacked in harmony. We made up several spirituals as we went along - one on “Prayer will bring you out” - then sang several of the good old standbys
