Dear Jack,

    I have no idea what if anything will come of your visit to and lecture(s) at MTCM.  I requested it.  The response was if I do this and that, then we'll "let you" bring in Mr. Conroy.
    So, I'll probably (and regretfully) say fuck it ("fornicate it" doesn't sound good in this context) for the time being.  The psychological weapon is, of course, to make underline: me feel that I'm doing something damaging or wrong or selfish by not giving in to what is shameless blackmail.  Up to a point this works with me, past a certain point I lose enthusiasm.  So.  We'll see.
