2 will be on vacation ("on holiday") from July 24 to Aug. 1, then relatives will be there, but says her son (who has a station wagon) would be glad to take you and your wife around anytime after the 15th of Aug. I know you'd enjoy the countryside, this being hop country, and the son would take you to the famous towns of Chatham and Rochester with fine views all the way. If you would like to see Canterbury, this is the county and a memorable occasion it would be at slight cost. Although I am going to give you both of the letters I received from these women, I am writing today so that you would take down at home or cut from this letter the addresses. In the first case, the lady is "on the 'phone," as they say over there. In the second case, you'll have to write after you have got to London, or wire, and this lady would also be glad to have you. Maidstone (called "Muggleton" in Pickwick Papers, is about 35 miles southeast of London, about one hour or less by train from Victoria Sta., London. Get aticket [sic] to Maidstone underlined: East, as Maidstone West, another station is inconvenient. At Maidstone bus station get the underlined: Chart Sutton bus, get off at underlined: The Albion (a public house), a well-known stop just a short distance from Mrs. Harris' house. You will see a typical church yard and the grand Weald of Kent near here. Arthur Koestler lived there, may still do.
