Barrytown 12507 May 6th
Dear Jack
We will be delighted to see you on or about May 18th for as long as your wish to stay. We live about 20 miles directly North of where FDR is planted. Croton is about 65 miles SE. By car it is on the taconic [sic] Parkway to Lafyetteville where highway 199 crosses it and then about ten miles directly West to where it crosses #9-G. Continue due West at this point for abut 1/3 of a mile. The schollhouse [sic] is obvious before you reach the fork in the road. Railroads these days you know dislike passengers but they do stop at harmon (Croton on Hudson) and once or twice a day at Rhinecliff nearby also Poughkeepsie The railroad prohibits the use of buses on this side of the river but operate infrequently between Poughkeepsie and nearby Red Hook. Everybody but us owns two or three cars as you know and that makes transportation difficult and dangerous. However Lu's brother is paying us a visit a week from now and we are renting a car so that we can ick you up here or there when we know when or where -- perhaps Hyde Park. Or Rhinebeck or Poughkeepsie. Our telephone Area 914 (same as Croton) PLateau 8 5178 and we are usually home 24 hours a day. Because mail is somewhat uncertain I am sending a carbon of this to New York. The mailman will be passing by soon and I must get dressed to get this posted so must get this posted right away. We can talk other business over when we meet. It will be grand seeing you both. It's been a helluva long time Barrytown is somewhat an undersized Woodstock with Gore Vidal and Mary Lee Settle (3 guggenheims) for nearby neighbors. St Josephs Christiam [sic] Brothers are across the street and Bard College near them.
More power to you The Swede F. V. Lamson
