Jan. 20, 1964

Dear Jack,

A couple days ago a couple of men appeared at the door and handed Jonquil the enclosed, DEATH side up. I gather she felt something like the bank teller who gets shoved through the wicket at him the slip of paper with the printed words beginning THIS IS A HOLDUP...

I hear from Ian Ballantine that the publication date for The Wanderer is February 24th and that you should be getting your copy shortly if you haven't already. I sure hope you do it for the Sun-Times (Give 'em a nudge!) as I'd especially like to get your reactions, especially now that I'm writing about people at large. (Those assorted flyer-saucer addicts!) My next book, which I've just started writing, The Red-Headed Nightmare, is taking me to Russia -- still further afield than The Wanderer, and has a lot about the CIA and the KGB, but none of the usual good guys-bad guys international intrigue stuff...

All best, Fritz
