I shall probably take agroup [sic] of students around for a nine day trip around that time. I shall not go to England, for lack of time, but I'll be in Paris from Sept. 20 onwards. I'll come a fe days in advance if you can come, which I would like very much. I could probably accomodate you and certainly take you around. So, please, try and come -with or without Gladys: What you tell me about Walter Snow is a revelation to me, because I did not know that he was working for the Communist Party by the time of the underlined; Anvil -PR merger; his letters to you always gave the impression that Rahv and Philllips were the tools of the party, not him. I'll be glad to exchange information with Glad Gilbert, though I think, he'll shortly know as much as I do if he concentrates on the Anvil-{R merger. My main source was, of course, your extensive files and correspondance [sic] - I know Kenneth Kinnamon well. He is a fine, serious chap, very open minded and more than liberal; a good scholar, rather erudite. He is finishing his thesis on Wright, concentrating on the American years. I gave him a lot of information. You give me an idea, with your mentionning [sic] all those books on the thirties. I think I could do a kind of "chronicle" of them for LES LANGUES MODERNES as I am doing for the next number with Negro literature. I already have to review the NEW REPUBLIC anthology (the faces of five decades)' I could add the underlined: Carleton Miscellanyissue, speak of underlined: The Disinherited, (and underlined: They seek a city, by the way), and include Filler's and Herny [sic] Roth's books. I could not find underlined: The Anxious years i Paris, and I would appreciate your bringing it over, with the book on Dreiser if it is not too heavy. If Roth's books is in papaerback [sic] I can get it later. I would like to ask you something: I am going to get paid by the NDEA institute I am working for now in such a way that my salary is not reported to the French Tax Offices. But if I cash the cheques directly here they can be traced back to me if there is any checking. Would you mind if I sent you my checks, endorsed to your order, you could cash them in your account and either change them into francs crossed out: or have a cheque in francs made in my name in Chicago which I could cash somewhere in Paris. in Chicago, or in Paris, for me. I'll get about 1300 $ this summer. and it's worth saving tax on it. If you see any inconvenience to that, I can ask another friend.
