pencilled note in top margin Embree, Charles B.

8 June 1980

Dear Jack:

I want to congratulate you on underlined: The Jack Conroy Reader. The appreciative response to it must be gratifying to you. I have followed with great joy the reviews, from the one in underlined: Publishers Weekly (which mistakenly gave Kentucky credit belonging to Missouri) to Studs Terkel's beautiful job. Enclosed is the one from today's Los Angeles underlined: Times.
Congratulations also on the new editions of underlined: The Disinherited ! You have achieved, among other things, the one dream all writers share, I think -- the dream of producing a classic. Immortality - she is sweet!
Barbara joins me in wishing you continued success. May the Conroy reputation grow and grow and grow - that justice may be seen to be alive and well in the world.
   Our best, too, to Gladys.

C.B.

P.S.: the photo is terrific. I have another copy of the underlined: Times' review which I am keeping. C.
