Dear Sage,
My pen seems to be going. Penrod worries about his looks going. Everything is going. Prices up, wages down. I don't care at all since I don't work. Can't buy anything anyway. Thanks very much for the New Letters and the inscription. It shall be one of my treasured books. And I thought the prices were fine. The Field of Coollen Colow was superb writing. I liked it I think better than any of your stuff I've read. note in left margin: Lady living with me thought it was great. I was sorry to see if end. One thing is clear, you should have written more of your own stuff. I hope you are now - it is really fine, quality stuff. I enjoyed the interview, too. Especially the last words of wisdom: Don't let the bastards grind you down. You know it. I'm (just finished) doing a piece on Vachel Lindsay's kid Nick (45 years old) who is a poet at Goshen College (poet-in-residence) Goshen, Ind. He met Frost in the last year of Frost's life. Nick was in grad. school taking a free government ride there. Frost told him not to get the degree. said:
"Don't Join The certified. Give 'em hell, The bastards!"
Nick didn't get it either. I sold a piece to AP News - $50. Interview of that lady who started the Dont Wear Fur Coats thing. Hack work. Got a review from Kogan. I'm tired of the Trib pieces - about 17 of them. They cut all the quality till I'm ashamed to see my name on them. From now on they get shit, which is what they want. No more taking
