It is said that the whole nation were commanded to assemble at one place at the time of the U ku donse?, or as I have called it, the Septenial feast, which was celebrated about the first of autumn, every seventh year. This, it is said was peculiarly a feast of rejoicing, and was doubtless observed in imitation of the feast held by the jews at the commencement of the sabbatical year.
There have even, it is said, been two clans of Cherokees, one clan are idolators - worshiping the sun, moon &c - while the other clan address their prayers and say that all worship should be paid to those beings above, who created all things - exist everywhere, - in perfect unity with each other some words crossed out - order all events, direct when & how all are to die, and will finally judge all men - take the good to themselves, in regions light, and place the wicked in darkness & woe, where when hungry, they will be fed with fire, & when thirsty, will have liquid flame to drink. Any one covenant with the full Cherokees ?nodily perceive a very radical difference between the two clans of people.
