During all this time a very old & dark looking Man wrapt up in a Mexican Mantle might be observed riding up & down on one sie of theCourse absorbed in thought, speaking to no one, & with looks that told that his heart was fixed upon the result of the race - he was the owner of Mok-row. Merely galloping about, now stopping short & puling up, now starting off again, he might be seen making for the Whisky stall (& ere the race was run he was drunk -) this was Diddle's owner. At last they were preparing to start; some remained at the Starting post, others on either side of the Course, whilst many crowded round the winning post, their thoughts ? for the fate of their cows & calves, land, negros &c. They start! and in about 20 Seconds the race is over
