 I attended ? Meeting held at the 'Tremont Hotel'.  The subject being moved by the Outs, to address the President Gl Houston for his interpretation about the measuration of the individuals confirming the unfortunate Santa Fé expedition, & Moreover to hear a report from A Gentleman who had just returned from Mexico having visited the greater number of them, working in Chains in that City -  other parts - The ? of the the [sic] treatment," these unfortunate men were suffering; shouted many Elegant Speeches & more than once I heard growled in an undertone - 'War to the Knife" - This expedition, which turned out to unfortunately let Austin to Traverse the Wildernessin June 1841, being composed of Traders. Amateurs, and a Military force, about 300 in number - but more particularly for want of inland at Austin the expedition had been delayed , & monsoons the original number contemplated was 1000 them. After much suffering, having somehow of other deviated from the proper track & ultimately through the traitorous conduct of a fellow named Lewis, the expedition fell into the hands of the Mexican Authorities of the same year; & Santa Fé of the same year; Santa Fe in October
