13 In 1815-17 We hear of Galveston bay the residence of "a motly muster of freebooters & smugglers, under the Mexican flag being in reality little less than the re-establishment of the Barrataria Band, somewhat more out of the reach of Justice" headed by a person styled Commodore Aury, who in conjunction with some Americans was allied to the Mexican Patriots - The celebrated General Mina and many followers came to the island on his way to Mexico October 1815 expecting the cordial co-operation of Aury - this was not effected 3 unclear words when Mina set such Aury only accompanying him on the Coast of Mexico with his daring band [insert in right margin: to his place of deembarkation] composed of 300 warrior band but after performing progedies of valour & suffering of no ordinary description fell a martyr to the cause he had upheld in the Peninsula.*
