2 My daughter Mimi, Miss Eleanor Copenhaver and I drove to the State fair at Richmond.

We lived in an upper middle class hotel there.

There I saw dead faces about me. There is something about prosperity, the hunger for it, the pretense in all these middle class Americans that makes the soul sick! I presume that is why I keep going back to the workers...poor people with little pretense to them. This gives me, often
