Jan. 25. Dear Mother,

  I'm on the boat writing this and so far the weather hasn't been rough.  I'm certainly glad, because when the boat rows and pitches I get terribly sick.   This will be mailed in Colombo.   We get in there at Tuesday next and leave the next day at twelve.
  Everyone around is busy playing deck games and etc.   I've been practising quite a bit on my sousaphone.  This boat isn't crowded like most of them, not many  young people around, so you see we do a lot of practising
