78 Mr Rowlandson minister of Lancaster (a pious & good man) having his wife children & severll friends in captivity among the enimy being surprised at Lancaster as is before touchd, himselfe & severall other ministers in his behalfe had sometime sinse petition the Councill to use what means they could, for the Redemption of the wife & c. which the councill consented to & in pursuanse therof ordered manor Gookin to Endevor to procure at Deere Iland one or two Indians that for a reward might adventure to goe with a message to the enimy to offer for the Redemption of Captives particuly mr Rowlandson. But although the major went to the Iland & did his utmost endeavr, word crossed out to procure an Indian to Adventure upon this service at that time, yet could not prevail with any so the matter lay dormant a good space of time But on the 23 of march some friends advised mr Rowlandson to make another petition to revive the former motion which hee did that day, The council declared them they ready to promote it & send a messenger if any could be procured; major Gookin who stirred up mr Rowlandson herunto was informed that one of the Indians latly brought downe from Concord named Tom Dublot alias Nepponit had some inclination to run that adventure of which the major informing the councill they ordered
