A pure historical survey, with all songs in chronological order, might get pretty boring. So each singer might search for contrasts, and agree to sing at least one old and one newer song. 3. Face up to disagreements, and sing songs that don't always agree with each other. This will add a good dramatic tension to the evening, and even some humor. 4. A printed songbook should be available so everyone present could go back (to their local union?) and lead a few songs somewhere on May 1st

   Who knows, if such programs are put on for six years in a row, perhaps in 1986 there might even be some united celebrations of May Day.
