? Fallon 1922 N. 23d St E St. Louis, Ill upside-down rubber stamp CENSORED

May 15. 56 Dear Lorraine -

I'd have written sooner to thank you for the welcome deuce, but I've been in the hospital, besides being mentally rather low. Conditions have been such that I haven't been able to work on the opus, and that frustration has been building up in me.
I've got thirty-eight days to go till out, and the first feelings of stage-fright are manifesting themselves, complicated by anxiety about getaway loot. I thought I had some stuff sold to Paris Review and was counting on the loot to get me back to Chicago, but I've heard nothing for some time, and I fear the deal has soured.
I'm in need of clothing to leave here in - an odd jacket, a medium-size sport shirt, and some kind of 9 ½ shoes. They give departing grads a cool sawbuck and a couple pairs slacks but the rest is left to the reclaimed malefactor. So if you can do anything along these lines, I'd be grateful if you'd let me know, soon.
Something wrong somewhere. I have a definite feeling I've been waylaid and robbed, and that can't be right.

love, Jim
