very light blue, very fine striped gingham, and a brown (not check nor plaid) calico, made; and a white with black things on it cambric and a white dress not made, and the white not bought.

The P. in Net's signature on the Birthday Card means Poppenhausen. Net Poppenhausen Metcalf. Isn't that good? I don't know who thought of it. She has no other middle name.

My writing is getting so dreadful. I'd better stop.

It's awful hot.

I've had a dreadful cold all this week. I was out of school Tues. Wed. Thurs. Throat was awfully sore Tues. Wed. Awful cough ever since. It is a lovely day. All the afternoon the setting room tables have been loaded with ink and paper and pens and hands and folks. I'm the only one that is still writing, and now I must stop you see.
