My Dear Son August 31st 47

Have just got a letter from the office directed to Isaac - at Northfield which I took the liberty to open - The content, of which was as follows Viz.

Northfield August 25/47 Dear Cousin Having that you were desirous to obtain a situation in some Engineering party - I have made application to A.F. Edwards Esq. Chief Engineer of the Vt & Mass Rail Road who resides in this place. I told him you were acquainted with the theory and wish'd for an opportunity to learn the practical part. Mr E thought he could give you employment - will let me know in a few days - if he does will wish to have you come immediately. The compensation will be 30 $ per month at first please inform me if you would like the situation & I will let you know the result as soon as possible - J. A. Stevens

Lucy has written the same to Isaac to be sent on tomorrow morning but will it reach him before he starts from there - If you know anything of his intentions or his whereabouts more than we do your superior knowledge will direct you what to do in the case. Martha Hill visits here today - Blab blab but not a word about "that Dollar"
