My very Dear Son

                            I have heard that you wrote to Lucy that you have been sick but have not had the letters should have felt less anxious perhaps if I had. why did you not write me about it particularly. Are you not pretty well convinced by this time that tis best to take care of your health - And that cold water is not a Panacea for everything. I have no doubt that it is good in many cases - But perhaps not in every one. I do verily believe that you have put too much confidence in the Coldwater treatment- you may laugh at my fears and anxiety about you but you may find by bitter experience that it would be better for you to be a little more like other folks since you are flesh & blood and of "like passions,,.
  Ann is gone really gone is I suppose on her way from Albany to Buffalo today expects to pass the Sabbath in Buffalo I feel very anxious to hear from her again dont know yet whether she is to be located. Have you written to her you cant imagine how bad I feel to have her so far far away alone.
