Mother Charles was intending to go to Bangor the day we came up or the next day but for the death of Mr. Sargents little boy, he could not of course _____ But assist & sympathise they seem to feel this was very much. Mr S says he had buried a Brother & Father & Mother but never felt grief like this. I brought away thinking it Josephs one of Isaac shirts an old one but perhaps he would wear it some more so I'll send it back. I don't think it best to get very coarse cloth for Josephs shirts. I should think such as you get for Sam'l if I want you should get about 5 yds for me also.

I wish you would write to Ann soon I suspect the Mr & Mrs Hopkins she is with are very uncomfortable folks to live with and are mean. I think that she does not & can not enjoy herself there______ you know Josephs stern philosophy he wrote to her that she had better not come home ________ but I feel bad to have her so situated. She is very apt to enjoy herself wherever she is comfortably situated ________ Tis hard to be a stranger away from all ones friends _______ I wish she would come home and stay and be happy____ Joseph takes his drip sheet in the morning is as well as he was, he was no more fatigued than I expected - he sleeps in the large bedroom__________ I am afraid that with all his philosophy he will be unable to keep up his spirit in the long days so monotonous so little to excite or pleasantly interest - however he's getting ahead right right smart & I tell him
he has just walked across the room, alone except two canes whereas before he left W. he used to go walk with 2 canes 3 times the length of the Piazza & repeat 1 operation several times pr diem.
