31 Morton St - [Avon Park, Fla] transcriber note: previous orange envelope said 31 Morton St., New York City

   July - 13th - [1927]

My Dearest May - You will think I am just awful - please don't

I only found the paper with your mother's passing - the little sketch of her life - yesterday evening - I had Ober? having my own troubles - which I am not going to

write you now - and had not been around the place for several days - but it all takes so much telling - - - You will understand that I am writing the moment I can - For you know May, I feel I have lost an old friend - a very dear - companionable woman - fire? and understanding -

With you - in a way - your occupation is gone - and the place will will? seem empty with an emptiness never to be filled again
