Indeed the world in general had ever been in this dark, benighted state, compared with the light of the gospel & its glorious priveleges- But now when a few began to experience the blessings of light the darkness which still remained was the more stricking & affecting to them- But to complete the apostle's idea of the night in which in connection with other things his brethren were it is likely he meant to consider their being crossed out in a state of imperfection & sin, as a time of night his words preceeding strongly import this- Says he knowing the time that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed & then says the night is far spent- the night here seems to allude to the sleep of ignorance & dulness in which they were at present.& needed to be awakened out of- We are therefore to consider the night in which the brethren
