1866. Tuesday, January 2. Baton Rouge La

Cleared off this morning & the mud dried during the day. To night it is clear & cold. The river has risen 20 inches I am told & some of the guns at the landing near under water. Have not spent much time at the office. Surgeon McConihe ordered an arrest by Genl Canby. No news. Have spent the evening with the Major - Mr. Elam playing cards &c - Saw the dress parade of the 65th to night. Col Crandoll complained that his Regt had no wood &c.
