Monticello, unclear 1 April 1913 Tuesday morning. Dearest Jafree, I was billed to speak here last night, but it rained and was so cold the comrades decided to put it off until tonight. Three people of one family came in and "visited" until I was nearly dead. Then when I got up stairs there was no water to wash in or to even brush my teeth. I stole down and got enough for my teeth and waited until this morning to wash my face. I find that the people away from Chicago have no conception of keeping clean.
