Darling Tafern,

Had an offer of a job this morning, but think Il'l turn it down. A Mrs. Helms and on of her married daughters, Mrs. Hunt, came over to see if I would stay nights at their place while Mrs. Helms goes visiting for a month up in Alabam. "There would be nothing to do but eat & sleep," and they wanted me to sleep for the price of the eats. I said I ate very little and could hardly do it without compensation, which would be 50 cents a night. It is simply a sop to convention that they want an elderly woman in the house nights. The father is night watchman somewhere with every 5th night at home. They
