place is but of small account as yet. Met Mr. Sullivan - married a daughter of Mrs. Long who lives near here. Folks along the Brazos preparing for an overflow. In 1824 about a mile from Richmond there was a great fight between the Shoctaws & Carancahuas [Karankawas] & which the latter were badly whipped. The inhabitants of this place did not think very favorably of Mr. Maillard & his doings when assisting on the 'Richmond Telescope".
