July 22, 1941- Darling Tafern Have just answered this letter from Jemma Thomas in lieu of birthday cards, which I meant to send, but didn't find any to suit me. Maybe Sam wouldn't mind making their acquaintance. You recall Jack Thomas is a good talker, used to be a strong left Socialist, but is too hard worked selling artificial limbs to do anything in politics. You need not feel obliged to read Jemma's letter, as it is somewhat difficult, but she is such a genuinely good soul that she is a good friend.
