L where with proper Medical attendance, Quinine & chicken broth, I got rid of my chills & fevers, remaining very weak. I accompanied a friend to San Antonio, where in a few days I appeared to be completely recovered - but expose to rains, Northers & travelling in the Mountains, brought back four or five times chills & fevers, but of a mitigated character, only producing debility.

 December - In Montgomery  We have had Northers, cold & torrents of rain  I get slight chills occasionally & they will not leave until I get a change of climate - Say the Sea air of Galveston island.
