On the Western side stands the remains of San Felipe de Austin; it is now a deserted village. One or two families ranch here only; weeds & bushes have grown up in the streets & unoccupied lots so that one has a difficulty in tracing his way to the main road on the opposite side of town. Austin resided, & doubtless the locality of the maturing of his patriotic measures x for a fine country he & his father had called into existence, and of inviting to it as a home his countrymen, & the stranger.
