Dear Mary and Cynthia,
It is a long time since I have written to you and I am neither down-sick nor up well today I thought I would write you at least a short letter. I was very sick this time and last time. These hard spells seem to wear on me a good deal, it is slow work to rally after them and I dont think I feel as well and strong through the month. I fear, M. D. , that the medicine you told me to take has lost its effect upon me. I am some afraid there is some disease in my bowels; they seem to suffer so much, but if there is it has the good sense not to shew itself (of any account) only on these exciting occasions.
