My dear Boy.
I wrote you a little note by St Hoyt. since which nothing exciting or important has transpired. Yesterday was my usual field day for the family & all were out all day, resulting in a bag of 27 lovely young grouse - some too large to broil - Joe & I together have bagged already this season 122 birds - I have never seen such good grouse shooting anywhere. I am much gratified with your success. The papers try to make public opinion, & to little men it is always easier to find fault than fairly to discriminate - And I am sorry to say that the very large majority of newspaper reporters are very little men - But the box office is the best critic, & after vainly trying to keep a man down - these same little reporters will eventually join with exceptional enthusiasm in the praises of that man who succeeds in spite of their abuse
